Durmaz stars as Toulouse down Montpellier Ligue 1 Conforama > Match Reports | 12/08/2017

Jimmy Durmaz was central to Toulouse FC's 1-0 win over Montpellier Hérault SC, with his penalty (43') proving enough to separate the sides and give TFC their first victory of the 2017-18 Ligue 1 Conforama campaign.

THE MATCH

Toulouse dominated from the off at their Stadium Municipal, with Durmaz pulling the strings from their left wing. The Sweden international floated the ball into Andy Delort early on but the forward - a scorer in each of his last four Ligue 1 Conforama games - failed to make it five from five with his header sailing over (18'). Delort saw a thumping volley kept out by Benjamin Lecomte's knee towards the end of the half (41'), but the hosts simply wouldn't be denied and when Pedro Mendes fouled Ola Toivanen in the Montpellier box, referee Frank Schneider pointed to the spot and Durmaz duly stepped up to stroke home the opener (43').

After a tepid opening to the second half, the south coast derby exploded into life, with Elyes Skhiri launching an effort towards Alban Lafont's goal only to see his crashing effort bounce back off the woodwork (78'). Delort's movement up front for the hosts meant most of the dangerous chances were theirs, though, and the striker forced a spectacular save from Lecomte after latching onto Somalia's cut-back (81'). Delort tried in vain to add gloss to the scoreline until the final whistle, but an injury-time effort was punched away by Lecomte before he was called back for off-side anyway (90+3') and it ended 1-0.

THE PLAYER: Jimmy Durmaz
This was arguably Durmaz's finest performance in a Toulouse shirt since signing for the club from Olympiakos last August. The 28-year-old's timing and technique made him look nearly undefendable at times, and if his teammates' finishing had been sharper he might have had a raft of assists to go with his first Ligue 1 Conforama goal since helping Le Téfécé to an upset 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain last September.

THE STAT: 200
He may have found himself on the losing side, but Montpellier forward Souleymane Camara made his 200th Ligue 1 Conforama start for La Paillade here. The Senegal striker turns 35 in December, and the ovation he was given - by both sets of fans - on coming off for Ruben Aguilar with 15 minutes to go spoke volumes.
